The voice…
What if “in the beginning” is not the beginning?
It’s certainly presents a bit of a puzzle for the scientists and the quantum physicians. Perhaps worth a thought for the spiritualists as well? Does eternity begin or end? If it does end, then surely it’s not eternity anymore. So, is “in the beginning” the actual beginning?
My bible has two ‘in the beginnings’. One at the start of Genesis – “In the beginning God…” One at the start of the gospel of John – “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” In the beginnings God was already there. And God spoke, or sang, all creation into existence. God was there before the world began. And he had a voice. A powerful voice. Powerful enough to change things. Powerful enough to change everything.
Let’s add into eternity a sun and a moon, a planet, and then days and weeks and years. Today becomes a part of eternity.
May I suggest God hasn’t lost his voice? He still speaks. He still speaks powerfully. His voice still changes things. He even took the time to make sure his words were written down, and he wrote this: “Today if you hear my voice, do not harden your heart.”
Today. Today God wants to be powerful in our lives. He wants to change things in creative and beautiful ways. Let him speak. It might be a gentle whisper. It might be in written words. However it happens, it’s still just as powerful as ‘in the beginning’.
Let him speak. Today.
