A piece of God…
Father to child, “What would you like the most for Christmas this year?”
“I would like a piece of God.”
“That’s an interesting request. Is there any particular piece you would like?”
“The piece that the Bible talks about.”
“The Bible mentions lots of ‘pieces’ of God. Help me out?”
“Dad! You know! The bit where it talks about the piece of God that transcends all understanding.”
“Ahhh… okay. That’s actually a really cool present to ask for.”
“Why?”
Dad opens his Bible to Philippians.
“Because if we change the spelling to peace, it says if we pray ‘with thanksgiving, and present our requests to God… the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard our hearts and our minds in Christ Jesus’. Let’s play with the words a bit more. Can you see the ‘present’?”
“Yep.”
“And can you see the ‘Jesus’?”
“Yep.”
“Maybe if the present we want the most for Christmas this year is Jesus… wouldn’t it be cool if the peace of God was the present he gave back to us?”
“Yes please!”
