Possibilities and promises…

There’s a room with two gods in it.

One is a god of amazing and wondrous possibilities.  Sitting in a beautiful, soft and plush lounge room setting, with a welcoming coffee table in the midst.  You’re invited to sit and join in.  The chair is ridiculously comfortable.  Before you, on the coffee table, are unimaginable amounts of delightful possibilities.  In reaching distance.  Possibilities of comfort, excellent health, lifestyle of few if any worries.  Joy.  No more tears.  All your needs provided for… ‘forever’.

The other god sits a short distance away.  This god promises there is no need to worry.  All your needs provided for.  ‘Forever’ completely sorted.

The first god relaxes back in the chair.  The ‘possibilities’ on the table are golden.  Literally.  The possibilities of enough wealth to undoubtedly ensure a comfortable and happy life.  The god’s words are confident, comforting, and reassuring.  “Remain committed.  Stay diligent.  Be productive.  Earn well.  You can achieve many things.  Life can be beautiful”

“Life is full of possibilities.”

The other god leans forward.  On the table before this god is a loaf of bread and wine.  The voice is gentle and kind.  “Don’t worry about tomorrow.  Tomorrow will worry about itself.  You don’t need to store up for yourself treasures on earth.”  Then the promise: “Seek first relationship. All these things will be given to you.”

A pause.

The god of bread and wine catches your attention again.  This time the voice is firm.  “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.  No one can serve two masters.  You cannot serve both God and money.” Matthew 6

Possibilities or promises.  You choose.
