Overflowing words…
Sometimes those memes on social media come too close for comfort. Try this one. “I don’t like to think before I speak. I like to be just as surprised as everyone else about what comes out of my mouth.”
Perhaps it’s worth a stocktake? What comes out? Negativity? Positivity? Pessimism? Optimism? Criticism? Encouragement? Coarse language? Soothing words?
Is your glass half empty or half full? There are arguments for either to be a good thing. As a Christ-bearer in a world determined to bring worry and fear, I would beg to differ. In my relationship with Jesus, I am constantly reminded that “my cup overflows.” Not just every now and then. Always.
Might the “overflow” of our cups be seen in our words?
The words of God in Psalm 23 continue to tell us his, “goodness and love will follow me all the days of my life”. Little surprise that our overflow would be love, joy, peace, kindness, goodness and gentleness.
Perhaps it’s worth a stocktake? Those around us might be pleasantly surprised.
