A nice cup of tea…
The kettle has boiled. What happens next?
According to George Orwell, you take the teapot to the kettle. Not the other way around. Inside the teapot is fine Indian tea. Lots of it. Pour in the still boiling water. Allow it to brew. Take it to the breakfast mug. Everyone knows it goes cold too quickly in those fancy shallow cups.
What happens next?
George continues, to tell us it is imperative the tea goes in before the milk. Perhaps the greatest debate between tea lovers worldwide? Which comes first?
C.S. Lewis wrote, “You can’t get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first.” The first four words of the bible are “In the beginning God.” This is not a milk first or tea first moment. This is a God first moment. You can’t get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first.
So, the tea and the milk are in the cup. No sugar. God is sweet enough. Thanks George. Notice the tea and milk are blended together? Inseparable. As one. Might we want God to colour and flavour every aspect of our lives? Love. Joy. Peace. Kindness. Gentleness. When his people are immersed in him, they are known for what they do and how they do it.
What’s your story of life today? Looking for peace? Pick up a pen. At the start of the next chapter write, “In the beginning God…” You can’t get second things by putting them first; you can get second things only by putting first things first.
