Go with the flow…

On the road to Dorrigo, climbing the mountains from the coast, there is a stream where the water flows uphill.  Sound impossible?  It is.  Yet certainly the water seems to be flowing up rather than down.  It is of course an optical illusion, because everyone knows it is against the laws of nature for water to flow up a mountain.

To defy the laws of physics and science is a difficult task.  Try getting an Airbus A380 off the ground.  It takes a lot of energy.  Going against the natural order of things always seems to be a lot of hard work.  Perhaps that’s why people so often to tend to go with the flow?  It’s just easier.  But the Bible suggests the journey toward God is about defying that which we see with our eyes or reason with our minds.

“In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains; it will be raised above the hills, and all nations will stream to it.” Isaiah 2:2

We all know streams don’t flow up mountains don’t we?  In the natural they don’t, but in the supernatural they do.  To seek God requires energy on our part, and willingness to trust beyond intellectual reasoning.  It requires faith, that God will push past our understandings and expectations so that we can come to him.  When we relax enough this seemingly difficult journey “flows” easily up the highest mountain into His holy presence.

“Come, let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob. He will teach us his ways, so that we may walk in his paths.” Isaiah 2:3
